Issues hosting webinars from Chrome 133
One of our webinar infrastructure providers has experienced issues with some versions Chrome 133 and Edge 133. This would cause videos from camera and screen sharing in affected browsers to not show properly for other participants in the webinar room. The issue only affected webinar hosts and speakers.
New builds of both Chrome 133 and Edge 133 have since been released, which resolve the problem -- and we strongly recommend making sure browsers are fully updated. This is usually done by restarting the browser. Alternatively, customers can host webinars in any other browser, such as Firefox or Safari.
What has happened?
The most recent major version of Chrome and Edge, version 133, was released on Feb 4th. As customers updated their versions, we started seeing this problem. The issue is tied to a bug in the browser and with one of infrastructure providers for webinars when publishing camera and screen sharing tracks: Even when the track is added to the room, it isn't always available for other participants in the room to see.
By Thursday February 13th 2025, both Chrome and Edge had been patched to resolve the problem -- and fully updated browsers did not see the problem.
How to avoid the issue?
If you are hosting or speaking in webinars using Chrome and Edge, we recommend making sure your browser is updated, at least to build version 133.0.6943.99
Does this affect the webinar audience?
No, anyone signed up to join webinars as audience members will see full webinar room, whether they're on the affected versions of Edge and Chrome or not. The recommendation to switch browsers only applies to webinar hosts and speakers.
